Loan Repayment Information/Programs
State Programs:
Look into if there are loan repayment options available in your state. This landscape is always changing but below are some we know of that are currently available:
- Maine: The Maine Dental Education Loan Program
- Michigan: Michigan Primary Care Association Dental Therapy Scholarship Program
- Minnesota: Minnesota Rural Dental Therapist/Advanced Dental Therapist Loan Forgiveness
- Oregon: Oregon Health Care Provider Loan Repayment Program
Indian Health Service (IHS)
The Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program provides up to $50,000 in student loan repayment for health professionals—including dental therapists—who commit to serving for two years at eligible Tribal or Indian Health Service facilities that care for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Tribal, Community, and Rural Health:
Most dental therapists qualify for loan repayment when they work in underserved settings such as Tribal health systems, community health centers, rural clinics, or nonprofit/public health programs. Programs like IHS and NHSC repay a portion of student loans in exchange for service in these communities.
